Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!

We took Barrett and Charlotte to the zoo for the very first time and we had so much fun!  Our favorites were the giraffes, tigers, otters, monkeys, and llamas.

Whoa.  That giraffe is much bigger than me!

Why aren't the llamas wearing red pajamas??

Sidenote: Barrett's very favorite book is Llama Llama Red Pajama.  We must read it before naptime and bedtime and sometimes in between just for fun.
He was very interested in the llamas, but a little confused that we were talking about "llamas" and he didn't get to hear the story.
Charlotte was content in her stroller and mostly dozed.  Barrett seemed to enjoy seeing the animals, especially big animals, and especially when they were moving.  You'd be surprised how many zoo animals sleep all day.  I guess they don't realize they have guests.  Or maybe the pressures of being an entertaining hostess 24/7 are too much for them.

Regardless, it's hard to get an 18m old excited to see a gray blob (aka, sleeping rhino) or black blob (aka, sleeping bear).  He's there for the action.

Watching the otters swim and play in their pond

Propping his chin on the stroller to watch the "fish-ies"
(pronounced "shish-ies")
While Barrett liked the giraffes, otters, and fish the best, guess who liked Barrett??

Have you ever seen a toddler charm a 500lb cat??
Oh, poor Sassy.  She would feel so betrayed if she knew.  Cats are her archenemies.  They sit on the other side of the sidelight and taunt her with their outdoor freedom, just to be mean.  Poor little thing.

Barrett made lots of new animal friends, and I'm sure we'll be back to the zoo very soon.  But don't worry Sass, I can guarantee we're not getting a pet tiger.

  1. I want to go to the zoo with YOU! (or...more honestly....with Barrett...). How does he tame that tiger?!?!?! :)

SO CUTE! Can't wait to see you soon!

  2. That must be about the cutest thing I've ever seen! But not a surprise ~ we knew that Barrett would love seeing the animals. But would they love him?? Apparently so - that tiger looked like he was just waiting for Barrett to rub his tummy . . heehee
