When I Grow Up

When I grow up, I want to be a...

Demolition guy!! Way more fun!

There's still time for him to change his mind. Maybe a fireman? He has an affinity for fire trucks and dalmations.

Really? All It Takes Is a Balloon?

Kristopher bought Barrett a red heart balloon for Valentine's Day. We clipped it to his bouncer for his amusement and thought it was pretty cute and THEN we realized how fascinated he was. In the past few weeks, he has really started holding objects by himself, turning them in his fingers, and putting them in his mouth if at all possible. The balloon was no exception:

Holding it...

(Please note Sassy's Valentine's dress and bows. She is subtly posing for what she thought were her glamour shots.)

Trying to eat it...

Watching it float away...and waiting for someone to hand it back to him. I think he trained us to play fetch. We did this sequence over and over and over.

I love how Barrett is thrilled and engrossed in what seem like the smallest things. It is SO MUCH fun to find new things to show him just to get his reaction. I'm really starting to understand the sappy "seeing the world through a child's eyes" saying. :) And in the meantime, I'm going to enjoy his satisfaction from a simple balloon. I'm sure it will be tractors and monster trucks soon enough, so I'm relishing the moment now.

Mardi Gras Mambo

Mardi Gras season is here! Barrett enjoyed his first parade, even though he was bundled up so tight he could hardly wiggle around.

Some friends came over and we watched the parade from the comfort of our front porch.

It was fun~ didn't have to travel to New Orleans (or anywhere) and the DPW guys came this morning to clean up the mess and most of the extra beads in our yard. Just the right amount of Mardi Gras for me...

RIP Mohawk

Some people, who shall remain nameless, have dubbed Barrett's special hair situation the "mohawk and mullet" because he was hairless except for a long patch on top and a long patch in back. I can see their point, come to think of it...
But the mohawk officially fell out leaving only short little hairs of indeterminable color (they look blonde to me in person but photograph sort of redish). As usual, Barrett could care less and is happy as a little clam~

Be Still My Heart

Yesterday, I had the crazy idea to paint the baby's hands and feet to make special Valentines. Well, you can imagine how that turned out...(I couldn't take any pictures because my hands were full trying to minimize the babe's flailing limbs and ensuing paint EVERYWHERE). Anyway. While I had the paint out, I took these pics:

I love it, even though I am fully aware of the cheesy-ness factor.

We're getting into the Valentine's spirit~ I think the paint debacle was worth it, because the handprints and footprints are so sweet, even if somewhat smudged by the wiggling. I'll try to do it again next year so I can see how his hands and feet have grown.

I'd Like the Filet, Please, Medium Rare

Ok, so maybe no steak quite yet, but he is eating rice cereal out of a spoon! I wasn't expecting it to go well, considering that he is a PRO at spitting out his medicines, but he actually seemed to know what to do when I came at him with the spoon - he opened his mouth and sort of swallowed. How about that?
(sorry for all of these milestone posts, I know it is getting repetitive, but its been a big week!)

Guess what Barrett did for the first time this morning??

He rolled over without any help! Yay! He mastered the mini-push up a while back but hadn't seemed interested in actually flipping over. We practice during morning tummy time and today he went for it~ the best part is that both Kristopher and I were there to witness it :)

He has also been busy jumping in his bouncer...

and catching up on his Blackberry email. Notice the look of extreme concentration. Must be business.

Story Time

Barrett loves books so I read to him a lot. Never too early, right? Mostly, he coos in response to my voice or pats the pages.

Oooh! Story time!

He hasn't tried to eat or tear any books yet (probably because he is distracted by sucking his fingers), so I consider this a success!
